Profile of the Target: COVID-19 Pandemic
The WHO declared COVID-19 to be a global pandemic, and recommended communities take social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Globally, COVID-19 is more than a public health challenge-it has laid bare the consequences of persistent systemic inequalities and is threatening our social fabric, trust in our institutions and the economic security of billions of people. Million of confirmed cases have been reported worldwide with significant number of people having died from the virus. Most of the countries have also been affected by the pandemic, which is expected to have dire social and economic consequences as well.
As COVID-19 continues spreading in many countries posing a serious threat to our health, security and lives, education in schools and universities is also facing unprecedented challenges. In response to a surge in school and university closures to contain the spread of COVID-19, HANDS convened a distance learning program for students to step up the emergency response and to minimize learning disruption. HANDS has already set up an online-teaching infrastructure at Head office which is linked with all HANDS offices through web based application Microsoft Team.
The COVID-19 has resulted in schools shut all across the world. Globally, over 1.2 billion children are out of the classroom. This situation never happened before in current century that’s why nobody has prepared to face this challenge. Nevertheless to overcome for students’ academic losses Education system has change its approach proactively, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms.
EMO management has also took initiavitve sit together and develp consensus how to utilize this crucial time and facilitate our beneficires (student) and minmize their acadaemic loss and definitely teachers are the main link to approach students.First they approach to all Teachers and engaged them in Teaching and learning process.
Training is a major Educational element it’s an effective for teacher learning and professional development. Teacher learning is a continuous process that promote teachers’ teaching skills, master new knowledge, develop new proficiency, which in turn, help improve students’ learning and its improve the team building, team work, and improve communication skills.
We had took this LOCKDOWN as a challenge because it’s never happened before during current century in the world’s history. EMO team shake their brains and develop consensus for best utilization of this LOCKDOWN. All schools were closed since March 2020.
First EMO team approached all Teaching staff and conduct Teachers survey to know about the availability of digital facilities and internet connectivity in an area.
Then EMO management decide to assign teaching staff to prepare MODEL COPIES of their respective subjects.Education team prepare guidelines for MODEL COPY and connect all teaching staff on microsoft team and guide them about copy making and share the complete plan and assigned to initiate the task all required stationary assured by district team.
Meanwhile EMO management team preapre the concept note for distant learning and conevence management to initiate this and engage all EMO Staff and students in an fruitfull activities and miminze their mental and academic losses teachers and management training plan for best utilization of time and engage all teaching staff in productive task and to improve existing capacity of teaching staff during lockdown.
EMO management also launch the digital platfor for students MAKTAB ONLINE and approch students through their class teachers.
Some students may not be benefitted from EMO digital Platform there are list of reasons like unavailability of android phones, 14 to 16 hours of unscheduled load-shedding in their area, absence of an educational environment at home, children’s and parents’ lack of interest in Education, poverty and pressures of domestic responsibilities, Nevertheless, a considerable number of students benefitted from EMO digital platform (Maktab Online)
First we suggested different platform for distance learning like Microsoft Team, Skype, ZOOM, GOOGLE Meet, but during survey we had find out that majority of parents haven’t android phones.
We had finalized to approach students through simple text messages.
We have engaged our EMO teachers in online sessions to seek the Knowledge and improve the capacity of Teaching .The digital distance teaching and learning introduced dynamic interaction amongst students and Teachers, ideas were shared and conditions synergy generated through the learning process. Students and Teachers get familiar with digital resources.
Change in the Future
This pandemic is a lesson learned for Educationist and we must adopt the provision of distance learning at our schools to deal with this kind of situations. We may introduced hybrid Education system it will be the combination of Face to face and online classes.
