Prof. A. Gaffar Billoo

Founding Chairman

Professor Abdul Gaffar Billoo is the founder/father of HANDS and served as the chairperson of the governing board from inception to 2019. He is a philanthropist and has been associated with these services since 1975. He is a renowned pediatrician in Pakistan. He received his Diploma in Child Health, Tropical Medicine, and Hygiene from the United Kingdom in 1962. He qualified for his MRCP and FRCP and was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1986. He was awarded the Sitara e-Imtiaz for public services, the most prestigious civilian award, in March 2007. He was the former Professor of Pediatrics & Head of the Department of Pediatrics at Dow Medical & Civil Hospital Karachi, and Dean Faculty of Medicine, University of Karachi. Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health and Professor Emeritus at Aga Khan University Hospital & Consultant Pediatrician.

Dr. Saeed Ismail


Dr. Saeed Ismail obtained his MBBS from Dow Medical College Karachi in 1983 and received his MCPS in Pediatrics from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan in 1986. He completed his MBA from IBA and the Pakistan Institute of Management in 2007 with a specialization in Human Resource Management and Marketing. He is a Fellow of SEDC LUMS, trained as a Master Trainer in People and Organization Management, and a Fellow of LEAD, trained in Leadership and Environment issues from LEAD International. Dr. Ismail has conducted numerous workshops on primary health care and community mobilization. He is the Founder and Executive Director of the Society for Children with Autism and Learning Differences (SCALED) & the Pakistan Centre for Autism. Additionally, he is the Co-founder and Chairman of the Health and Nutrition Development Society (HANDS), a member of Kiran Foundation, a member of Noor e Ali Trust running JS Academy for Deaf, and a member of the Managing Committee of the Central Lab of Civil Hospital Karachi. He served as the Executive Director of Baanhn Beli from 1983 to 2007. Currently, he is a full-time Consultant Pediatrician at Aga Khan University Hospital (For Agha Khan Diagnostic Centre and Agha Khan Hospital for Women and Children Kharadar), a Visiting Consultant Pediatrician at Medicare Hospital, and a Visiting Consultant at RIMS Hospital. Dr. Ismail is a graduate of Dars e Nizami from Jamia Darul Uloom Korangi, where he teaches Quranic Arabic, Tafseer, and Fiqh at Darul Hikmah Institute, and he also teaches Quranic Arabic at Ihsan Institute.

Mr. Ali Husain Brohi

Vice Chairman

Mr. Ali Hussain Brohi received his MBA from the Institute of Business Administration. He is an Associate Member of The Institute of Bankers Pakistan. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors at Security Papers Ltd., SICPA Inks Pakistan Pvt. Ltd, and Pakistan Security Printing Corp. Ltd. Previously, Mr. Brohi was employed as Head-South Region by the State Bank of Pakistan and served as the Ex. CEO & Executive Director at Security Paper Ltd.

Ms. Siraj–un-Nisa Isani

General Secretary

Ms. Siraj-un-Nisa Isani has been providing her services to HANDS for the last 28 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Care and has served as the Nursing Director at Kidney Center. Additionally, she has worked at Lady Dufferin and Holy Family Hospital. With extensive experience in community health and development, she actively observes the activities related to health and education undertaken by HANDS in rural Karachi, particularly focusing on Jamkanda Hospital and the Foundation Assisted Schools (FAS).

Mr. Ghulam Hussain Baloch

Finance Secretary

Mr. Ghulam Husain Baloch is one of the founding members of HANDS. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics. He is a Senior Member of the Sindh Graduate Association and a member of the Board of Sindh Madrasa. Previously, he served as the Chairman of Wadela Balouch Welfare Organization and was a member of the Social Welfare Committee of district East for many years. With comprehensive experience in community development, he has undertaken remarkable efforts in engaging youth. He established the LAL 11 Football Club and Alqasim Cricket Club at Dur Muhammad Village, District Malir.

Dr. Abdul Rashid Memon

Joint Secretary

Dr. Abdul Rashid Memon completed his MBBS from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, and his residency in Pediatrics and Child Health at Aga Khan University, where he currently serves as a lecturer in the same department. He is a Founder Member of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Pakistan and PSIMD (Pakistan Society of Inborn Errors of Metabolic Diseases). Additionally, he is a Member of the Governing Board of the Society for Children with Autism and Learning Differences (SCALeD) and the Pakistan Pediatric Association.

Mr. Younus Bandhani


Mr. Younus Bandhani is a Trustee of the Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability (TDEA) Board. He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics. Mr. Bandhani is a strong believer in civil liberty and is actively engaged in various national networks and movements on democracy and human rights. His primary focus is on empowering women, girl children, religious minorities, untouchable castes, and the poorest of the poor in Sindh.

Prof. Aijaz Vohra


Professor Aijaz Vohra is a member of the Governing Board of HANDS. He is renowned as one of the Best General Physicians in Karachi. With an MBBS, MD (Medicine), and FRCP (Medicine) degree, along with extensive experience spanning 34 years, he is highly esteemed in his field. Currently, he serves as the Head and Dean of Medicine at Ziauddin University, Karachi. Additionally, he provides his services as a General Physician, Gastroenterologist, and Family Physician at Ziauddin Hospital. Professor Vohra also held the position of Head of the Department of Medicine at JPMC, Karachi, in the past.

Ms. Kausar S Khan


Ms. Kausar Saeed Khan is a member of the Governing Board of HANDS. For nearly 25 years, she served as a full-time faculty member in the Community Health Sciences department of Aga Khan University. During this time, she taught undergraduate medical students, developed and directed a graduate course on Health, Equity, Ethics, and Rights for seventeen years, and created and conducted numerous short courses focusing on behavioral and social sciences. She held the position of Head of the Division of Behavioral and Social Science until its closure. Her primary areas of focus included community participation, equity, bioethics, and rights. Ms. Khan also served as a member of the Ethics Review Committee, the Hospital Ethics Committee, and AKU’s Bioethics Group at Aga Khan University. She holds two Master’s degrees in philosophy, one from Karachi University and the other from McMaster University. Additionally, she pursued a Ph.D. candidacy in the Department of Religious Studies at McMaster University. Ms. Khan has undertaken extensive work for the urban poor of Karachi and rural areas of Sindh, particularly focusing on women and children through a participatory approach. She is one of the founding directors of the Community Engagement Center (CEC) of Indus Health Network, where she has been instrumental in experimenting with and promoting the SALT approach for community engagement.

Mr. Naeem Ilyas Khanani


Mr. Naeem Ilyas Khanani is a member of the Governing Board of HANDS. He currently holds the position of Director of Operations & Technical Services at Shield Corporation Limited. He obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing/Marketing Management, General, from Newport University. Additionally, he holds a Postgraduate Qualification in Social Enterprise Development (LUMS McGill) Operations Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology. Previously, he served as the Director of Operations & Technical Services at PharmEvo Private Limited.

Ms. Sabina Khatri


Ms. Sabina Khatri is a member of the Governing Board of HANDS. She is an Educationist, Nutritionist, and Social Worker. Ms. Khatri holds a Diploma in Nutrition and Fitness from Penn Foster High School, along with certifications for Fitness Professional from AAFA (Aerobic and Fitness Association of America), Senior Fitness, First Aid, and CPR. She is the Founder and Chairperson of the Kiran Foundation and the philanthropic group called NEEED Welfare Work.

Dr. Aisha Mehnaz


She graduated from Dow Medical College, a premier medical institution in Pakistan. Following her graduation, she pursued a fellowship from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan and obtained a master’s degree in Health Professional Education. Dr. Aisha has held various leadership positions, including serving as the Head of the Pediatric Department at DUHS (Dow University of Health Sciences) and as the Associate Dean of Medical Education at CPSP. Dr. Aisha is the Chairperson of Konpal, an NGO dedicated to working for Children’s Rights and against all forms of child abuse and maltreatment. She has extensive experience in the field of children’s health and protection, with particular interests in infectious diseases, child development and learning disorders, liver and gastrointestinal diseases, child protection, medical education, and research. She has authored and published over a hundred original papers, articles, and reports in reputable journals and newspapers. Additionally, she has been honored with the President’s Gold Medal award for her services to children’s healthcare and protection, as well as the Ashoka Award for social entrepreneurship.

Prof. Dr. Syed Sanowar Ali Naqvi


Professor Dr. Syed Sanowar Ali Naqvi graduated with an MBBS from Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). He also holds a DCH (Diploma in Child Health) and a PhD in Public Health. Additionally, he is a Member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. Currently, he serves as a Professor and Head of the Department of Community Health Sciences at Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC) – Sohail University, Karachi.
