HANDS Umerkot started the project entitled as WASH Flood Emergency Response in the tent cities of Umerkot, it is established by Sindh government during flood calamity, according to the government official figure more than 10000 rain affected population is living in tent city Chachro road most of them are non-Muslims like Bheel, Oad, Kolhi, Meghwar and others.
HANDS Umerkot visited tent city chachro road under the project WASH Flood Emergency Response where a comprehensive meeting was held with rain affected community to know their preliminary and basic needs and necessities. Among affected, we met a brave active lady Ms. Geeta who has a potential to do work for the betterment of rain-hit masses. We have conducted meeting with this courageous lady, in which ways of effective and cooperative work have been discussed, further she assures us that she would abide by the shared terms and conditions of HANDS Umerkot. Moreover, HANDS Umerkot distributed aqua tabs and sachets to make drinking water clean and safe for drinking purposes. During project interventions safe potable water has been distributed among affectees and health hygiene sessions have also been conducted. She showed a willingness enthusiastically to do work among the rain affected peoples of tent city Chachro road. She willingly took initiative to give demonstrative sessions regarding usage of aqua tabs and sachets and also conducting health hygiene sessions at door steps.
After conducting awareness sessions by Ms. Geeta, community started using aqua tabs & sachets to purify the water and getting health related benefits from the usage of aqua tabs. To deal with regular expenses Geeta has also opened a small tuck shop in her tent which shows her potential to do multiple work simultaneously. She is an inspirational woman for all of us to do work in critical situation.
These rain affected people are facing several problems regarding health issues & inadequate safe drinking water. Community has lack of resource to fulfil their basic needs because being homeless and they have no any financial source to complete regular needs.
HANDS has continuously provided a basic service to the rain affected peoples of tent city Chachro road. Geeta has become inspiration for other females of her community. She was very thankful to HANDS Umerkot steam regarding provide a relief services to fulfil their basic need of water by providing water storage tanks and hygiene kits.
