The innovative idea of school WASH clubs was developed after carrying out an environmental review. HANDS examined the effectiveness of the schools’ existing hygiene practices and came up with new initiatives through brainstorming. WASH Club is formed with the combination of 15-20 children per school (2 or more per class) after evaluating the interests of children by giving them any environment related task or written assignment that would show their understanding or ability to resolve the problem. HANDS formed 607 WASH Clubs last year in schools with a membership of 9,105 students keeping equal participation of girls and engaged 1214 teachers to promote WASH in schools’ component in promoting health and hygiene practices in schools and communities
