HANDS, having over 32 field offices and 13 disaster risk management Centers in all affected region, immediately initiated relief and response activities. Over 4 million affected people have been given relief by HANDS with shelter/roofing kits, rescue through boats, safe drinking water, food rations, hygiene kits, dignity kits for women, Non food item (NFIS), medical camps, veterinary camps for livestock, and other services.

We are now making an addition to HANDS portfolio of services , developing a degree awarding Institute of Development Studies – IDS. This will compliment HANDS services for vulnerable communities.

HANDS conducted first Situation Analysis Survey of Tharparkar Drought Calamity 2014 with technical support of UN OCHA and also delivered its service to cope with the emergency

In 2012 Disaster Risk Management Center was constructed at District Thatta for Southern Sindh

In 2012 Disaster Risk Reduction centers was constructed at Sukkur District for Northern Sindh

HANDS played a major role for relief, early recovery and rehabilitation in post flood 2010 period
2010

In 2010 HANDS successfully completed the Institutional management Certification Program (IMCP) of USAID for Management Standards

HANDS got certified by Pakistan Center of Philanthropy (PCP) for the first time in 2008

HANDS signed a 05 years USAID FALAH reproductive health project in 2007 and organization extended its offices from Sindh, to Punjab, Federal Capital Islamabad and Balochistan.

In 2007 HANDS launched its successful Pilot Project of “Marginalized Areas RH & FP Viable Initiatives” (MARVI), in District Umerkot

HANDS started relief services in response to the deadliest earthquake in the history of Pakistan and developed a Disaster management program to deal with Emergency and Disasters.

In 2002, HANDS District office Karachi Rural was running Community Midwifery – CMW School along with 20 bedded Hospital, Jamkanda, Bin Qasim Town Karachi

The services of the organization scaled up to upper Sindh and lower Punjab after agreeing to do a project of capacity building on Family Planning. The areas included Sukkur, Ghotki, Dadu, Umerkot, Mithi, Sadiqabad, Raheem yar khan, Khanpur etc. With this extension 05 more offices were established

In 1998, HANDS went in to an agreement with City District Government to adopt the secondary health care facility at village Jamkanda, District Malir, Karachi. Another office was established in Karachi, Jamkanda, District Malir.

In 1997, Horizon of HANDS expanded from Health and Education sector to Water & Sanitation, Micro Credit, Gender & Development and secondary care facilities.

HANDS First Regional Office was established in 1997 at Hala, Sindh

In 1995, HANDS first time entered in the education sector through Participatory Development Program (PDP) under Social Action Program (SAP) of Government of Pakistan, funded for the promotion of health and education

HANDS first Award Distribution Ceremony was conducted in 1995 along with Rural Development Conference
1994

The first formal donor funded project was “Development of Health Structure (DEH)” funded by the Trust for Voluntary Organization – TVO. HANDS program interventions extended from 03 to 24 villages.

In 1993 HANDS got itself formally registered under Societies Registration Act of XXI of 1860 and The vision of organization was defined as “Healthy Educated & Prosperous Pakistan”

The first PHC center was established at Memon Goth Malir Karachi in 1980 and then this volunteer group moved to other villages

HANDS started its journey of intervention from a public sector hospital in Karachi as Health and Nutrition Project in 1979 lead by the then Head of the Department of Pediatrics at AKUH, Prof. A. G. Billoo (Sitara-e-Imtiaz).
