HANDS was founded by Prof. A. G. Billoo (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) in 1979. HANDS has evolved in 36 years as one of the largest Non-Profit Organizations of the country with an integrated development model and disaster management expertise. HANDS has a network of 31 offices across the country and has access to more than 21 million population more than 15,700 villages/settlement in 43 districts of Pakistan. HANDS strength is 12 volunteers Board Members, > 3500 full time staff and thousands of community based volunteers of more than 5,900 partner organizations.
HANDS Pakistan is registered under Societies Act, is certified by Pakistan Center of Philanthropy (PCP) and Tax exempted by the Income Tax Department Government of Pakistan. HANDS has qualified the Institutional Management Certification Program (IMCP) of USAID of management standards. HANDS is accredited with European Union and also possess membership of IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).

Abdul Ghaffar Billoo (Born January 14, 1937) is known Pakistani pediatric endocrinologist, where he serve as professor of clinical pediatrics. He was awarded with Sitara-i-Imtiaz for public services the most prestigious civilian award by then-President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf in March 2007. He founded HANDS International a Nonprofit organization in Pakistan which has been working since 1975.

HANDS extends its services to 25 million population of nearly 20,274 villages and settlements in 35 Districts of Pakistan. HANDS was conceived and founded by Prof. A. Gaffar Billoo (Sitara e Imtiaz). It is certified by Pakistan Center of Philanthropy. HANDS evolved a “model village” strategy, after 35 years of experience addressing health, education,shelter, infrastructure & livelihood. Following are HANDS best models require your support:
1) Ensure Primary Health Care:
Provide’s primary health care services, HANDS selects a village based girl and train’s (2 months) her as a Community Health Worker (MARVI worker). 1600 MARVI workers have been trained and are providing health services in their respective villages. The total cost of her services per yearis US$ 1600 (PKR 160,000) to serve a population of 1,000.
2) Train a Midwife:
HANDS Community Midwifery Schools are equipped to conduct hospital based 18 months diploma course for matriculate (10 years of studies) girls. They are later deployed in their respective villages for maternal and child health care services. HANDS has trained 400community midwives. The total cost for diploma per CMW is US$ 2900 (PKR 290,000) to serve a population of 5000.
3) Save the Life of Mother:
The high risk pregnant women referred to a private secondary/tertiary care health facility for management of complicated deliveries. HANDS voucher redeeming scheme saves, the life of the mother by reimbursing the cost of management to hospital on behalf of poor mothers. HANDS has benefited 2643 pregnant wom
en from this scheme. The cost of each redeeming voucher is US$ 150 (PKR 15,000)
4) Build a Model Hospital:
The organization will establish 54 HANDS own 20 beds private hospital by 2020. Each hospital will benefit 75000 population.The total cost of construction of a hospital, with one year recurrent cost is US$ 145000 (PKR 14.5 million.)
5) Take care of Early Childhood Development (ECD):
The ECD model of HANDS, prepares children for primary education. ECD class comprises of a furnished room for 30 children 3-5 years of age. HANDS train the community girl in specialist skills of childhood development. HANDS is managing 997 ECD schools and is benefiting more than 215674 children. The cost of caring of 30 children of a village is US$ 3300 (PKR 330,000) per year.
HANDS has facilitated many families to adopt public sector school. These schools are adopted by signing an agreementwith education department of the government. HANDS renovates the schools, furnishes it, trains teachers, provides supplies and enrolls minimum 100 children. HANDS is intervening in 1304 schools. The cost of adopting a school for one year is US$ 4400 (PKR 440,000).
7) Established a Model School:
The organization will establish 7 rooms school by 2020.
Each school will cater more than 150 primary school children.
The total cost of construction of school, with one year recurrent cost isUS$ 65000 (PKR 6.5 million).
8) Shelter for the homeless:
HANDS provides one room shelter to a homeless family. The shelter comprises of a room, a veranda and a toilet. The construction material and design vary from district to district. HANDS has built 75,805 one room
shelters. The cost of a shelter is US$ 300 to 1600 (PKR 30,000 to 160,000).
9) Drinking Water Facility:
HANDS also ensures drinking water schemes, through provision of hand pump and
boring. HANDS have established 3000 hand pumps. The cost of each water scheme vary from US$ 150 to 900 (PKR 15,000 to 90,000).
10) Community Physical Infrastructure (CPI):
These schemes comprise of village level infrastructure like street pavement, culverts, water reservoir and drainage. 3698 schemes have been developed.
The average cost of CPI is US$ 300 (PKR 30,000) infrastructure.
11) Poverty Eradication through Self Employment
The needy person are assessed and provided skill training for enterprise.
Later financial support was provided to more then 200,000 to establish small business.
The average cost for each person’s self employment is US$ 270 (PKR 27,000).
12) Support us in building Institute of Community Development
The organization is already in process of constructing the HANDS Institute of ommunity Development. The Institute will provide skill development to nearly 10,000 persons per year of urban and rural population. HANDS has already purchased 6 Acres of land and construction has started on Super Highway Karachi adjacent to Baqai University
