Annaj Ghar

Pakistan produces about 20 MT of food grains annually that includes wheat, rice, maize, barley and pulses etc. Substantial losses are known to occur during the postharvest handling operation in Pakistan and during rains and floods. It is recorded that 5.2% losses takes place during storage. This model of Annaj Ghar provides communities with low cost solution by promoting the environmental friendly indigenous construction materials that will protect their seeds, grains from rains and thermal insulations due to its lime mixture presence in material. Raised platform as DRR measure also help families to protect their seeds, grains etc.

Objectives:
The objectives of this model are to:
 Provide low cost durable seed bins to the communities at their door step.
 Replace traditional poorly constructed and iron made seed bins with lime stabizied seed bins with DRR measures
 Provide low cost solution by promoting the environmental friendly indigenous construction materials
Methodology:
The general methodology of this model is same as those of previous models.

The specific steps for the model can be referred in the brochure of this model.

Achievements:
500 Annaj Ghar (seed bins) have been constructed for the communities to preserve food grains in the target areas.
