This best practice model offers provision of toilet facilities for the communities. This model is very effective where there are no sewerage lines or sanitary systems for disposal of human excreta.
The objectives of this model are to:
Provide drainage system for waste water.
Provide toilet facilities to the communities.
Promote Open Defecation Free (ODF) environment.
Improve health and hygiene conditions.
Improve the aesthetic view of the locality.
Reduce prevalence of diseases caused by absence of sanitary system.
The general methodology of this model is same as those of previous models.
The specific steps for each component of the model are concerned with technical aspects and are referred to program brochures of each model.
The components of Sanitation model includes:
1. Covered Drain Drainage Scheme
2. Open Drain Drainage Scheme
Overall 114 sanitation schemes have been completed so far under this model.
Total 3582 emergency latrines have been constructed as part of sanitation model.
4. Permanent Latrine
So far 11,212 permanent latrines have been constructed in different target areas to improve the sanitary conditions.
